Situation

SimCom is a Norwegian telecommunications company specialising in modern communication solutions. Originating from Telekompetanse AS, an established provider of telecom solutions and communications infrastructure, SimCom focuses on simplifying and improving communication for customers and partners.

To strengthen its customer experience, SimCom aimed to modernise the platform's user interface and ensure compatibility with the latest Asterisk VoIP software and mobile devices. The company also sought to introduce new features and enhance overall system functionality.

In search of an experienced external IT partner with a proven track record in the European telecommunications sector, SimComselected Baltic Amadeus to lead the transformation.

Solution

The project was executed in three structured phases. During the first phase, the system databases were migrated from MySQL to PostgreSQL. The user interface was improved with Bootstrap and jQuery, while front-end solutions were implemented using the FuelPHP framework, resulting in a more modern, responsive design.

In the second phase, the system was migrated to Asterisk version 11.6. This stage laid the foundation for introducing new functionality and represented a significant step towards modernising the platform architecture.

The third phase involved developing the SimCom mobile applications for iOS and Android, as well as desktop applications for macOS and Windows, entirely from scratch. In collaboration with the client's in-house team, the system was migrated to Kubernetes infrastructure. Baltic Amadeus provided programming, testing and quality assurance for new functionalities, implementing the entire development process using a microservices architectural approach to ensure flexibility and scalability.

Added value

The upgraded IP communication platform, built on open-source technologies, enabled seamless integration with multiple systems, including customer management databases such as Microsoft Active Directory and Microsoft Exchange, as well as Azure AD, conference call systems and Microsoft Teams for call handling and status synchronisation.

The platform now supports advanced features such as custom call sequences, real-time visibility of colleagues' availability, email communication and flexible call flow control. These enhancements significantly improve operational efficiency and user experience.

The redesigned, intuitive interface ensures ease of use while the modern architecture supports scalability and future development. As a result, SimCom is better positioned to expand into new markets, strengthen its competitive advantage and generate long-term economic benefits.
