Situation

Star Information Systems provides Enterprise Asset Management systems to a wide range of vessel types, including tankers, bulk carriers, liners, chemical and gas carriers, fishing vessels, passenger ferries, offshore support vessels, seismic ships, drilling rigs and dredgers. Operating globally, the company manages substantial volumes of transactional and operational data.

However, its web-based eCommerce platform, originally developed more than a decade ago, could no longer meet modern performance expectations. Increasing business volumes and expanding data processing requirements exposed limitations in the legacy database structure and underlying software. System speed and performance were declining, and the platform struggled to accommodate new features required to remain competitive. Recognising these constraints, Star Information Systems sought a technology partner to modernise and future-proof its eCommerce environment.

Solution

Baltic Amadeus proposed developing a new eCommerce solution based on Microsoft ASP.NET MVC. The project included a complete system rebuild and a redesigned UX/UI to improve functionality and visual clarity.

The team prepared detailed functional specifications and refined feature definitions to ensure the upgraded platform would address both current operational needs and future scalability requirements. A comprehensive analysis of the legacy system was conducted before redevelopment to ensure a smooth transition and minimise business disruption.

Integration analysis was also carried out with the client’s order management system, enabling structured data exchange and process optimisation. Following this analysis phase, the team implemented new system programming and the upgraded architecture, designed to handle significantly larger data volumes while maintaining performance stability.

Added value

The upgraded eCommerce platform delivered substantial improvements in operational speed and the overall user experience. Users can now receive and manage supplier offers more efficiently and place orders with greater ease.

The new system maintains consistent performance regardless of data volume, ensuring stability even as the business continues to grow. The redesigned UX/UI has eliminated information overload, resulting in a cleaner interface and more intuitive navigation.

Adding a new messaging function enables users to communicate directly with specific recipients within the system, further enhancing operational efficiency. Furthermore, the modernised architecture establishes a solid foundation for seamless integration with third-party systems, expanding the platform's flexibility and long-term adaptability.
