Maritime digitalisation is accelerating – the global market is expected to reach USD 423.4 billion by 2031, up from USD 157.4 billion in 2021. To stay competitive, maritime companies increasingly adopt innovative IT solutions. One of them is TT-Line, which has over 60 years of experience delivering Baltic Sea ferry services.
TT-Line partnered with Baltic Amadeus to enable real-time data exchange between ship crews and onboard tablets through a Data/API Hub solution that improved data quality, delivery speed, and security.
TT-Line has been operating direct ferry services between Germany and Sweden on the Travemünde–Trelleborg route since 1962. With a team of over 700 employees, the company delivers reliable, high-quality, and environmentally friendly transport solutions, connecting major Baltic Sea ports in Germany.
The company uses a booking solution designed for customers with high transport volumes, enabling direct integration between customer transport management systems and TT-Line. As bookings are transferred directly from customer systems, TT-Line identified the need to enhance the existing solution to allow ship crews to receive and exchange data instantly in real time.
To address this challenge, TT-Line partnered with Baltic Amadeus, which proposed the development of a Data/API Hub tailored to the maritime environment.

The goal of the project was to create a solution enabling ship crews to easily access and exchange real-time data. To achieve this, Baltic Amadeus developed a Data/API Hub that serves as the foundation for real-time data exchange between ship crews, tablets, and other systems, ensuring seamless communication.
The solution was built on Microsoft Azure infrastructure, using services such as API Management, Azure Functions, Event Hub, Data Factory, networking components, and VPN connections. The new Data/API Hub was designed to align with TT-Line's existing Azure Active Directory infrastructure, ensuring consistent access and identity management.
Security was a top priority throughout the development process. The team implemented robust security measures and best practices to guarantee a protected environment for data exchange.
The newly implemented Data/API Hub enables efficient communication among the freight and passenger booking systems, the tablet application, and external partners, ensuring a smooth, reliable exchange of information.
In addition, the solution acts as a centralised data storage system, securely storing operational data and images from trailer gates. This allows TT-Line teams to access real-time information and manage resources more effectively.
Finally, the Data/API Hub increased the flexibility and adaptability of data messages received from multiple partners, significantly improving data quality and overall data management efficiency.
